Crystal Point Began in a Hot Tub

Every company has an origin story.

For Crystal Point, the marriage of a hot tub and good champagne birthed a specialist in HPE NonStop terminal emulation.

From a 1980s home-grown business with host-connectivity expertise on numerous mainframe computers and networks, Crystal Point today focuses exclusively on the NonStop platform.

Read about the founders, their challenges, their products, and the infamous hot tub incident.

TANDsoft’s FS Compare Offers High-Speed Data Comparison at the Block Level

The new FS Compare from TANDsoft Inc. examines data between live (online) HPE NonStop databases. The utility incorporates TANDsoft’s FileSync Data Deduplication technology, which significantly reduces comparison time. FS Compare analyzes just the changed data blocks, resulting in the high-speed reporting of discrepancies. Hours to compare can be reduced to minutes.

FS Compare accesses data at the block level, regardless of block size. Block-level analysis permits faster comparisons than those performed at the record or row levels. In addition, FS Compare efficiently performs multiple partition and index comparisons in parallel rather than sequentially. Between block-level comparisons, data deduplication, and parallel processing capabilities, FS Compare is the most rapid comparison utility for use in the NonStop environment.

In a customer trial now underway, FS Compare reduced data validation from 1 hour, 12 minutes to 4 minutes.

Best of all, FS Compare requires no application modifications. None whatsoever.

Features and Benefits

• Compares live and offline databases
• Analyzes data at the block level, regardless of block size
• Supports Guardian files, SQL/MP tables and OSS files (SQL/MX and DB Repair in Version 1.1)
• Incorporates TANDsoft’s data deduplication technology for high-speed discrepancy reporting
• Provides partition-, index-, and block-level statistics
• High-speed capabilities due to data deduplication, block-level analyses, and parallel processing
• Requires zero application modifications
• Incorporates HPE NonStop server fundamentals: parallel processing, file selection by wildcarding & qualified expressions
• Certified on all HPE NonStop servers

FS Compare can be purchased as a standalone product from TANDsoft Inc. or via Network Technologies International (NTI). According to Tim Dunne, NTI’s Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales, “the partnership we enjoy with TANDsoft means that current and future users of DRNet, NTI’s popular data replication solution, will have the option to deploy FS Compare to quickly identify potential synchronization concerns.”

In addition to its new FS Compare, TANDsoft’s solutions include the blazing fast FS Backup & Restore, which sends upstream only changed data blocks to HPE backup utilities. TANDsoft’s flagship solutions include the OPTA2000 virtual clock- and time-zone simulator; FileSync for automatic file synchronization, replication, and data deduplication; and Sensitive Data Intercept (SDI) for protecting and masking sensitive data-at-rest in Enscribe, SQL/MP, and SQL/MX databases. All are easy to install, easy to use, and are backed by exceptional support. They are certified on NonStop X, vNonStop, and all other NonStop servers.

Preparing Your Workplace for Uncertainty

How XYPRO Prepped for Covid-19

As a cybersecurity company in Southern California, fueled by a culture of transparency and caring for our employees and customers, we live and operate by our mission: “We protect your data as if it’s our own.” We approached the Covid-19 threat the same way we approach cybersecurity threats, with extreme vigilance and seriousness.

How did we protect our employees and prepare our organization to keep running for an indeterminate amount of time?

We feel like we started planning for the potential spread of Covid-19 over two months ago. The flu season hit our headquarters office pretty hard. We had more people out with the flu or taking care of kids with the flu, than in previous years. Because of that, we had already communicated to our staff that they should stay home if they’re not feeling well or have been taking care of those who are sick. We already decided to be flexible with sick time as we saw it being used up before the end of February.

Our perspective was this:

Whether they can or can’t do their job remotely – if you ask them to stay home then it has got to be with full pay.

A message from TIC Software and our latest Blog

To our valued clients and partners worldwide, as the global pandemic of Coronavirus (COVID-19) quickly spreads, the entire team at TIC Software wishes you, your colleagues, friends and family safety and good health.  As a result, we currently do not anticipate any interruption to the continuity of our service, client experience, or ability to support our clients. Should the situation change we will notify you immediately.

How quickly can you bring up critical reports on your DR system?

Most, if not all, of NonStop customers have a DR (Disaster Recovery) system, as well as a plan to ensure business continuity of their mission-critical applications in the event of a disaster. A company’s goal is to be able to resume business operations as quickly as possible with minimum interruption. The main focus of the daily operation plan is to ensure applications and third-party packages are up-to-date on the DR system, and that the database and files are synchronized regularly from Production to DR.

One simple method to replicate spooler jobs from  Production to DR system easily is to use TIC's Tele2000 product.

To learn more about  Tele2000 and about TeleFTP and their contribution to better support recovery of spooler files following any disaster, natural or otherwise, take a look at this latest post to the TIC Talk Blog: How quickly can you bring up critical reports on your DR System

Should you have questions about this solution and would like to discuss it with us please feel free to email us. We would be glad to hear from you!

Stay safe, and stay healthy.

Insider Technologies and NuWave Technologies Announce Partnership

Insider Technologies today announced a formal partnership with NuWave Technologies, further extending the capabilities of its HPE NonStop products.

NuWave’s LightWave ServerTM allows Insider Technologies to enhance the visual experience of its Reflex monitoring tool, providing real time insights into NonStop performance and health. Status alerts, critical alerts, and access to historical data are accessed directly from the Reflex dashboard.

“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with NuWave, a NonStop middleware specialist that enables us to complement our monitoring platforms”, says Karl Todd, Product Owner at Insider Technologies. “Our clients are amongst the most demanding in the world. It’s important that we are constantly innovating to bring the best in class experience that they have come to expect from our mission-critical tools.”

An improved GUI enables Reflex users to select views of physical and virtual disks; busy processes and bad processes. From each item, users can drill down further to obtain metrics and any associated alerts relating to their NonStop environment and applications, providing operational teams with early warning of business process vulnerabilities.

Andrew Price, Director of Sales and Business Operations at NuWave said “This partnership underlines the value of our modernization tools. Not only are we able to demonstrate the power of LightWave ServerTM by combining it with an established mission-critical product like Reflex, but Insider Technologies will also benefit from exposure to new markets where NuWave has an established presence.”

Reflex is a dynamic operations and service management product for the HPE NonStop arena. Advanced architecture provides object based, state table monitoring of systems, networks, hardware, subsystems, processes, files, applications, events, and 3rd party applications. Reflex’s unique design lies in its ability to pull together a massive amount of active monitoring into a single set of screen objects, providing the means to diagnose a problem object in more detail via context sensitive drill-down.

LightWave ServerTM is a REST-based middleware solution that allows HPE NonStop applications to be exposed as REST Web services. Those services can then be accessed by partners, customers, or other parts of the user’s business to provide increased functionality and performance of the NonStop server by securely allowing direct access. LightWave ServerTM is also commonly used to connect a NonStop application to a graphical user interface (GUI), as in this instance.

About Insider Technologies: For nearly 30 years, Insider’s solutions have been at the heart of their clients’ infrastructures. From the UK's Central Bank to the most secure intelligence agencies, Insider Technologies is a worldwide leader in big data monitoring and management. www.insidertech.co.uk

About NuWave Technologies: Over the past two decades, NuWave has built industry-leading client-server middleware for the HPE NonStop server client base. NuWave’s original SOAP-based products were groundbreaking for their time, and now NuWave’s REST-based LightWave solutions provide additional modernization capabilities for NonStop customers. www.nuwavetech.com

Keeping Payments Clean

Have you noticed how no-one wants to touch Cash anymore?  Even the suspicion that it might harbor the dreaded virus is enough to put people off.  It may be the great dawn of contactless payments is now upon us.  The cleaner simpler method of payment has come to our rescue!  As this crisis affects the entire globe, practices around the globe are changing fast.  In South Africa, there’s a rumor doing the rounds that their currency is being withdrawn and replaced.  In England a growing number of merchants are refusing or reducing the tills where cash can be used for payment.  Just last month legislators were about to dispense new laws to ensure that cash would continue to be accepted, but events appear to have overtaken them.

As we go out less to shop for goods,  this practice of using Contactless card payment will drive up the number of electronic transactions in-store in the short term, and help to make up for the lower volume of business at traditional merchants.  In addition, e-commerce transactions will increase; just this week Amazon announced the hiring of an additional number of staff across Europe, and offered to increase wages by €2/£2 an hour, with sick pay thrown in for good measure.

In the bizarre panic to stock up the house with as much bathroom paper and pasta as the home will take, the supermarkets have had a good month, with takings up 5% over the month before.

We at OmniPayments will process payments no matter how they are made.  In fact the more that cards or mobile wallets are used to pay for goods, the greater the benefit for our customers processing the payments. Because you see unlike many card processors out there with on premise systems, we make no additional charges to clients just because their volumes are increasing.  In fact we welcome the fact that they process an increasing number of transactions.  It means they are getting an event better return on investment than they originally anticipated.

ATM transactions may fall as we demand less cash; however this is a trend that has been going on for some time now.  The number of ATMs in the UK has fallen by 17% from the peak, mainly in tandem (sic) with the number of bank branch closures.  This lack of cash availability will of course not help the move towards social inclusion. Governments are being urged to protect the publics access to cash to ensure that those who depend on cash for their lives can continue to do so.

It would be ironic also in the long term if employers realized that home-working with web-conferencing is actually a reasonable way to run a business. It requires less office real-estate, and employees would be saved their daily commute.  Everyone would save money.  We could all go mad from the isolation of course, but that’s another matter entirely.  Having said that, I must dash, it’s time to wash my hands.

In the meantime, take a look at OmniPayments for all your cards & mobile processing needs, whether you’re an Acquirer or an Issuer, whether you’re a Telco or a Bank, we can help you shape a unique solution to drive revenues for your organisation.

Visit OmniPayments.com for more details or email us at sales@OmniPayments.com

Your PassPort to Compliance

In these uncertain times, organizations are relying on our trusted security solutions more than ever to ensure the integrity of their applications.

CSP PassPort® and PCI-DSS Compliance

CSP PassPort provides important security features for NonStop servers (with or without Safeguard) and greatly expands the Guardian security package.

While Safeguard provides a range of authorization and authentication controls, additional controls are required to manage how users logon to TACL and/or OSH, and what privileged commands can then be used. At the same time, once logged on, it is critical to control what activities may then be carried out.

CSP PassPort addresses some of the following PCI-DSS requirements:

Requirement 7

Restrict access to cardholder data by business need-to-know

Requirement 8

Identify and authenticate access to system components

Requirement 10

Track and monitor all access to network resources and cardholder data

Requirement 12

Maintain a policy that addresses information security for all personnel

CSP PassPort

CSP PassPort provides comprehensive user and command control, password quality enforcement and auditing. It controls and filters user access to systems, programs and commands according to customized user profiles.

All user terminal input/output operations (including OSS) can be monitored via an easy-to-use GUI interface, while an audit process records all user activities.

Major Benefits:

Ø  Limit user access to sensitive assets, programs and commands

Ø  Improve user accountability and audit activities

Ø  Track powerful user id’s and commands

Ø  Prevent easy hacks by enforcing Password Quality

Ø  Eliminate the need to disclose sensitive SUPERID passwords for executing commands

Ø  Generate extensive reports of user activities

Ø  Get real-time notifications with Alert-Plus, and forward logs to SIEM for analysis

Key Features:

Ø  Monitor and audit user sessions down to keystroke level

Ø  Role-based user access

Ø  Time restrictions by command and program

Ø  User Authentication SEEP to prevent users from logging on outside CSP PassPort

Ø  Powerful Custom Reporting

Ø  Control client connections by IP address or IP address ranges
