7 Things About Insider and a MultiBatch 9.5 Upgrade you Never Knew Existed

1) Easy to do

As part of the MultiBatch 9.5 release, a menu driven upgrade macro (to accompany the base installation macro) is supplied. The upgrade will convert database files, install new macros, new object files (compatible across H, J, L-series platforms), and update the data definition libraries, all with minimal user intervention.

Insider Technologies is the only company that continues to maintain and improve their batch scheduler solution, when compared to competitor products, which remain static.

2) Backout Capability

Of course, as part of our Quality Management System (QMS), we aim to provide excellent customer service and support and one of these requirements is to allow our customers to backout the upgrade if they do not wish to proceed. Therefore, the upgrade menu includes a backout option where all changes are reverted and the customer can continue to utilise their pre-upgrade version.

3) Benefits

Audited Disaster Recovery log file

All MultiBatch runtime schedules are logged into a TMF Protect Recovery file, which can be replicated to a Standby system.

Therefore, if a system failure occurs, the MultiBatch schedule can be recovered on the new Production system – all by the use of two simple commands. The batch is fully recovered up to the point of failure, with status reporting being supplied to EMS and/or the home terminal, enabling the business to determine the state of their application.

No longer the need to manually check the status of a batch workflow, or document the start, failure, completion of batch jobs on the Production node; just in case a site-swap is required.

StepView

Current and historical runtime history of a complete batch schedule is stored, enabling the business to determine how the batch has performed over say, the past seven days, or on particular days.

MultiBatch Step metrics are captured and presented via the current Metrics List:

and via the historical Metrics List:

CRONTAB Scheduling

Enhancement to the current AT and Every scheduling mechanisms, the new CRONTAB GUI interface enable a wide variety of schedules to be configured for a job.

Mixed Case Parameters

Generally, the MultiBatch environment upshifts any Step Runtime and/or Parameter values.

Version 9.5 enables a user to configure a step to utilise the values as entered in the Pathway or GUI screens, retaining a batch jobs case sensitivity requirements.

4) Support Levels

Well, we have a very knowledgeable Support Desk who know our customers ‘intimately’, shall we say. Our customer response times are on a par with the HPE NonStop GNSC level of support, which is saying something indeed.

Not only is the support desk at a level other product suppliers would envy but Insider has Consultants, Developers and Product Managers who know our customers just as ‘intimately’ and able to assist at a minute’s notice.

Insider Technologies prides itself on the level of support we provide and as for testing our products, then we try and break them as much as possible before they leave the door. We would hate to find a product not functioning as well as expected. We do love however, continual product enhancement and MultiBatch 9.5 is one where customer feedback and our own internal testing and reporting has identified major improvements.

5) Consultants Know Their Customers

We continue to work with our customers and have been doing so for nearly 30 years, regarding them not just as customers but as friends too. We understand their environments and configurations, helping us to provide first class guidance, training and support.

6) The GUI is awesome

No other batch scheduler provides an inherent GUI configuration and monitoring interface.

Further enhancements are underway, never resting on our laurels, as we know that we can continue to improve.

For those who do not wish to use the GUI, then the Pathway block mode interfaces are always available.

7) Some customers do not wish to upgrade

That is understandable. They are content with what they use, so no need to upgrade and avail themselves of product enhancements. Product Support covers old and new releases.

XYPRO’s XYGATE® User Authentication Adds Integration for RSA Cloud Authentication Service for HPE NonStop Servers

Steve Tcherchian
Chief Product Officer and CISO
XYPRO Technology Corporation

XYPRO Technology is a certified RSA Ready Technology partner. XYGATE User Authentication (XUA) now supports the RSA Cloud Authentication Service as a second factor of authentication for HPE NonStop servers. RSA is one of the world’s most widely deployed two-factor authentication solutions. Their certification program assures the solution customers are deploying has been verified interoperable based on RSA’s strict guidelines. This ensures quality, achieves faster time to value and lowers overall cost of ownership.

Account compromise due to stolen and/or weak credentials is among the most common methods attackers use to gain unauthorized access to privileged accounts—administrative users that have the power to take action with the highest authority in the most sensitive areas of your HPE NonStop server. To ensure no damage is inflicted (maliciously or inadvertently), PCI DSS Requirement 8.3 and other compliance frameworks require multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all personnel with non-console administrative access and all personnel with remote access to the Card Data Environment.

MFA is an authentication method by which a user is granted access only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of information to an authentication mechanism. This must be:

  • Something the user knows (password)
  • Something the user has (security token) and/or
  • Something the user is (biometrics)

The goal of MFA is to create a layered defense strategy which makes it difficult for an unauthorized user to gain access by using stolen credentials. A second factor is required before granting access.

XYPRO partnered closely with HPE, RSA and our customer base to deliver a certified RSA Cloud Authentication Service integration that comes packaged as part of the HPE NonStop operating system One of the largest security risks to any organization is the misuse, compromise or sharing of privileged account credentials.

Paul J. Holenstein Award Interview

Paul Holenstein, Gravic EVP, was interviewed at HPE Discover on Gravic winning the HPE Momentum Technology Partner of the Year 2019 Award.

Gravic Presents on HPE Shadowbase at KNUG, TNUG, and N2TUG

In July, we sponsored and presented at four events in a span of five busy days: the HPE NonStop Innovation Summit in Seoul (KNUG), the NonStop and MCS Technology Day in Taipei (TNUG), and two Partner Technical Updates (PTUs). At the PTUs, we presented Easily Sell HPE Shadowbase to the HPE and system integrator account teams, and at the customer events we presented HPE Shadowbase Enterprise Migration Use Case and Product Update. We enjoyed the HPE presentations by Franz Koenig, Gelin Cheng, and Anthony Ho, and especially the HPE Japan team’s recent migration success stories, with some featuring HPE Shadowbase! We toured HPE’s Seoul office, walked along the Han River, met partners for dinner, and appreciated forming new relationships while renewing current ones. We thank Gelin Cheng (APAC MCS Regional Manager) and her regional HPE colleagues for successfully organizing all of these events.

.

In June, we attended the N2TUG Meeting, held at the Gaylord Texan Resort near Dallas, Texas. It is a terrific hosting location for the event, which was well-attended (about 75 attendees in total) with extensive representation by HPE and ISV partners, along with respectable representation by the user community. Diane Funkhouser (HPE Liaison to N2TUG) and Bill Honaker (N2TUG President) organized and opened the event, and Ken Goldman (Director, HPE NonStop Sales for North America) gave an overview of HPE sales and strategy for the first half of the year. Meg Watson (Master Software Engineer) of HPE's Advanced Technology Center (ATC) offered insight into powerful ways of leveraging DEVOPS environments on HPE NonStop. Later, Justin Simonds presented an interesting research presentation on the history of artificial intelligence, and the vendors presented on their wares and new features. Paden and Paul Holenstein tag-teamed the HPE Shadowbase Use Cases presentation, with Paden describing the use cases and Paul adding details for our exciting new and upcoming future features.

We are happy to share our presentations, so please contact us. Hewlett Packard Enterprise directly sells and supports Shadowbase solutions under the name HPE Shadowbase. For more information, please contact your local HPE Shadowbase representative or visit our website.

May the OmniPayments force be with you

There’s a chap called JSON here to see you.  The digital banks can see the future, and are slowly but surely taking us there.  While those of us that grew up with the more traditional banks are possibly quite happy with the service banks currently provide, others and primarily the young don’t quite understand why you would ever need to a physical bank.

The traditional banks with their heavy infrastructure have been pushing us away for years, and automation has been encouraged in their efforts to reduce costs.  Open Banking is finally nudging the banks to innovate faster, and we should reflect on the consequences of what “Open Banking” could potentially bring to us all.

With so much power now in our favourite and trusted mobile device, we consumers are now expecting to manage our entire lifestyle from our phone. So the digital journey that banks have embarked upon has only really just started - it’s their first baby steps. We can see our balances, pay friends, transfer money instantly over a faster payments backbone, but beyond this convenience the direction this is really going is that every consumer will eventually be able to manage their entire bubble from their smartphone.  So in addition to shopping think home, car, holiday insurance, mortgage, investments from a single lifestyle App.  Imagine this: there may be a day very soon when you can get an instant mortgage approval just by pointing your phone at a property.

So there’s a race for all players to become that chosen App, the one you go to every time you need something important. Several banks have seen the future and want to be there.  Other disrupters think they can win the race too.  The likes of Atom, N26, Starling, Monzo & Wirecard are all on this journey

OmniPayments too is enabling REST and Open Banking APIs into its Card Switch, so cards, balances and transactions can be exposed to customer devices on demand.

JSON will see you now.

You can find more on OmniPayments at www.omnipayments.com or contact sales@omnipayments.com for further information.

New CSP Video Series

CSP is launching an all-new video series for some of our latest solutions. We are opening the video series with Authenticator+,  CSP's new solution for multi-factor authentication on NonStop Systems.

Watch the complete Authenticator+ video series here!

Multi-factor authentication has become vital in ensuring secure access to systems. It provides superior safety measures over easily compromised single password methods and is also an important requirements to comply with regulations such as PCI 8.3 and GDPR.

Any remote user or non-console admin user that has access to the cardholder environment must include multi-factor authentication. From legacy Pathway applications to the latest RESTful interfaces, effective MFA must be provided for users and applications that have the potential to access sensitive data.

The new CSP Authenticator+™ supports both primary and secondary authentication for NonStop. It provides a  RESTful interface which supports multi-factor authenticated logins on NonStop systems. CSP Authenticator+ resides on the NonStop Platform and uses an OSS “bridge” to connect to the RESTful interface of the CSP Authenticator+ web server.

Primary authentication methods such as RADIUS, RSA Cloud, Active Directory, Oracle ID Manager and Open LDAP are supported. User Rights Synchronization will make it easier than ever before to integrate a NonStop system into the Enterprise ID management platforms.

CSP Authenticator+ can provide authentication services via Safeguard Authentication SEEP, or Pathway and Non-Pathway servers. Almost any application, including TACL, can now easily support multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Secondary authentication methods supported include RSA SecurID, Email, Text Message, Google Authenticate and RADIUS. You can now enable MFA logins for different applications, making them more secure!
